Cardiff is a leading city for sport and was named the ‘European Capital of Sport’ in 2014.

When it comes to sport in Cardiff, our capital city has lots to offer. It is a great place to keep fit with its excellent sporting facilities, good range of gyms, and plenty of outdoor spaces. Cardiff also has state of the art stadiums and facilities like the Principality Stadium.

Each year our small, but lively, city hosts many important world-class sporting events such as the Six Nations Rugby matches and the Speedway Grand Prix.

Cardiff has some great facilities and sports clubs so it is a fantastic place to keep fit. From Cross-Fit to horse-riding, you should be able to find a club to suit your needs. There are lots of gyms which you can join and students who are staying at our residence can use its gym facilities for free.

Outdoor Exercise

Cardiff has some beautiful parks which are perfect to go running in. Outside the city, you could explore the Taff trail, which is a beautiful walking and cycling trail along the River Taff. Alternatively, you could climb Pen-Y-Fan which is the highest mountain in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park.

Swimming & Water Sport

Cardiff International Pool offers a beach area with water slides and a jacuzzi. It also has a 10-lane Olympic competition swimming pool. Cardiff International White-Water Centre offers canoeing, indoor surfing and white-water rafting at reasonable prices and it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or experienced.
