6th March 2014

Do you know what day it is today?

Today is “World Book Day” which is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

My name is Shoko and I’m the only non-native English speaking staff member at Celtic School. Although I have lived in Cardiff for 10 years, I still learn new vocabulary and ways to use English every day. Particularly, I find that reading books is one of the best ways to learn English. At Celtic School, we always encourage students to read books. We also have a small library on the 2nd floor and our students are welcome to borrow books.

Addition to the free “Grammar Doctor” and “Conversation Cafe” that we are currently running, we are also planning to run a free “Book Club” session once a month from next month to encourage students to read more books. At Book Club, students pick “a book of the month”. They will discuss about vocabulary and use of English in the book, the characters of the book and exchange their feedback of what they thought about the book.

Happy World Book Day!!
