What to expect from our Junior Summer Programme

28th January 2020

We know that giving up your free time to study can be quite difficult, so we’ve answered a few questions to help you understand what to expect from our Junior Summer Programme. Read on to find out more!

What kind of content will our summer students learn?

We like to keep things fun on our Junior Summer Programme and provide our students with engaging content. Last year our students spent their time learning about:

cultural differences and English skills”, “new vocabulary”, “the use of English in daily life”, “creating your own luck (with meditation)” and “slang – that made us feel ‘more English’”

These were amongst other topics like sports and animals. Our teachers also used game-based learning platforms such as Kahoot!

We’ve had great feedback about the way our lessons are delivered and we want you to know what you can expect from our Junior Summer Programme.

What kind of activities will be available?

Loads! Our summer programme hosts so many different activities. From discos, playing badminton and swimming, to movie nights and arts and crafts. Furthermore, we take the students on educational trips to historic castles and nearby cities such as Chester and Manchester. Not forgetting our group activities to Bounce Below and Zip World – you only have to look at our pictures to see the fun that we had!

Our activities aim not only to be entertaining but educational too – our group leaders will take every opportunity to discuss new language and ideas with the students. It’s a fully immersive experience!

It’s a long way from home! Is it safe?

We recognise that it can be quite scary to let young people travel across the world for a few weeks, but it is our duty to make sure that they are safe and protected whilst they are in our care. We have designated Safeguarding officers who look after our under 18 students. All of our staff go through a concentrated selection process to ensure they are the right fit. Our younger students are given a full timetable to keep them engaged and are supervised by our activity leaders throughout the day. Please visit our webpage for more details about how we ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.

What do our summer students say about our staff?

We provide our students with only the best teachers for their summer stay. Not only are they all highly qualified but our students commented on how the staff were:

“helpful and fun”, “polite, kind and open-minded”, and “reliable and selfless”

We promise to provide our students with fun and engaging lessons by staff who really care about what they do.

Furthermore, our programme staff are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. Providing a range of activities, engaging in educational and informative sessions and making our students feel at home are just some of the things our programme leaders are dedicated to.

Where will they stay?

We offer each student their own room to stay in whilst they are here and they are fully catered for with three meals a day (Full Board). The accommodation is based at the University of Bangor which has 24-hour supervision. For safeguarding, male and female students are placed in separate flats and there is a laundry service that is provided every week. We asked our students what they liked most about living with other students and here is what they said:

We learn to share opinions and feelings and to know each other better. It improved our sense of community”,

“We love that feeling of community that originated from our shared apartments”,

“Being with friends”,

We’ve learnt how to live together and we had the opportunity to share problems and opinions”

We believe that this experience helps students prepare for their future and equips them with important skills that they might not get the chance to learn elsewhere.

If you need a little more convincing that this is the right thing for your students or children…

We asked our summer students to tell us what they would remember most about their trip to Bangor and here are a few things they said:

“Everything!” … “the people” …“the place is so calm and quiet” … “the green hills and Snowdonia” … “the landscape with the beautiful light and colours” …“[how] we feel like a big, second family” … “[how] everyone got their own room” and overall they will remember

Celtic”.
