This week’s student voice is that of Simona from Italy.

7th April 2017

The Student Voice is a glance into the experiences of students from all over the world who have studied with us at Celtic English Academy, here in Cardiff. These testimonials are a first-hand reflection of the impressions left on each student from their time at our academy in the capital city of Wales.

At Celtic English Academy we value our students’ feedback and their opinions, always using them to refine and improve the experiences of our future students.

Here is what Simona had to say about her experience:

  • Name: Simona
  • Age: 29
  • Nationality: Italian
  • Duration at the Celtic English Academy:  2 weeks General English course and 12 weeks Internship
  • Accommodation: Student residence

Simona came to Cardiff to combine learning English with a work placement in a local Cardiff company.

Simona studied 2 weeks of General English at Celtic English Academy prior to her 12 weeks’ internship at the Welsh Women’s Aid. Simona worked in the Campaigns and Communication department, carrying out market research, creating presentations and infographics as well as contributing to many projects that the charity did.

Simona was very happy about her internship programme and here is what she had to say about the internship:

“The most beautiful thing about my work is the women I had the pleasure to work with. They are people who have enriched me not only professionally, but most personally. Beyond the skills which I acquired, they taught me to work with passion and dedication and to believe in what I do as well as they do. They really believe in a world without violence against the woman, in which she is respected in all her beauty. They really believe and prove it every day investing all their commitment to make their voices heard, through projects and events to which I have had the pleasure to collaborate and participate. They have always been sure that the work I did for them was also useful for me, for my professional growth. They have always been careful that I enrich my skills baggage.”

Simona also added the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) to her English course at Celtic. The GCC programme consisted of 18 modules that she took before, during and after her stay at Celtic English Academy. This is an intercultural skills programme that can be a fantastic addition to your CV or future job or university applications.

Simona believes that the GCC helped her learn more about herself and other types of people and cultures.

“I like this programme because it enriched me and I had the opportunity to learn new techniques and new point of views. I found the videos and sessions very interesting. I think it’s true that culture has two side, one visible and one invisible and we all should have respect for both.”

Simona is enjoying her new job in Italy at the moment. We wish her every success in her future career!
