Summer groups get creative with technology to improve their English

4th August 2015

This spring and summer season Celtic has welcomed a number of Spanish and Italian school groups on short study stays in Cardiff. The groups have stayed with host families in the city or in the brand new YHA Cardiff Central hostel accommodation.

Whilst the summer students have enjoyed all the trips and activities outside of the classroom, a great deal of learning and fun has been happening inside the classroom too!

One of Celtic’s teachers, Rachel, brought English learning up to the present with a ‘design your own computer game or app’ lesson. Take a look at the great inventions our students’ came up with:

The information the students had to include were; the main character, friends, type of game, objective or mission, special powers or abilities and special tools or gadgets.

The students’ also had to work in teams to come up with the rules of the game using the grammar for obligations or prohibition. For example: must, have to, mustn’t, don’t have to.

Who knows, perhaps we’ll see some advanced digital creators as well as advanced English language speakers in the future thanks to innovative lessons like this at Celtic English Academy.
