All about me!

Name:  Marie

Nationality:  Welsh

Languages: English, French, German, Spanish.

Travel experiences: I have travelled to Jordan, Washington DC and France. I also studied for a semester in Spain and another semester in Germany. My greatest travel achievement was couch surfing for 8 weeks through Spain and Morocco – I didn’t spend a penny on accommodation!

Three fun facts about me:

  1. I eat kiwis with the skin on.
  2. I’m left handed.
  3. I play rugby.

Life at Celtic English Academy.

Job Role: Student Support Officer

Background:  I graduated last year from Cardiff University with a language degree and immediately began working for Celtic.

Typical week at Celtic: all week I support students as well as organise social activities for the students, but Chelsea will be taking over this role soon!

Where you will find me: at reception.

Favourite part of my job: when students come and tell me they have had a great trip! I love organising fun events and getting good feedback.

Favourite part about working in Cardiff: all of my friends work close by so it is great to meet up at lunch or after work. In addition, there are loads of awesome events that happen in Cardiff so it’s good to be close to that.

Best moment at Celtic: so many! One of my favourite memories was taking a group of Japanese students to the Cardiff Castle Banquet. It was hilarious, everyone was up on the stage dancing, singing and having fun.

Where I eat my English/Welsh breakfast: Café 37 round the corner from Celtic.

Favourite Cardiff coffee shop:  Coffee Barker.

Best place to eat lunch in Cardiff: Steen the chef.

Favourite Cardiff bakery: Brod in Pontcanna.

Best place to eat dinner in Cardiff: Café Citta , an Italian restaurant.

The most delicious Sunday Roast: The Robin Hood Pub, sooo good (and cheap!).

Favourite place to have a drink: the best place to have a pint during the week is Steinbeck as all drinks are half price! For cocktails I always go to 10 Mill Lane and for a night out with live music I would say go to Tramshed or Clwb Ifor Bach.

Best Cardiff park: Victoria park, they have a splash park and volleyball courts.

Words of wisdom for new students ?

Get involved with as many social activities as you can as you will make new friends and really get to experience Wales and the UK. Also, please bring a pen!
