What is LanguageCert

LanguageCert is an Awarding Organisation dedicated to language skills assessment and certification. As a member of PeopleCert they are proud to be part of the certification industry delivering millions of exams in 200 countries.

Who are the exams for?

LanguageCert offers many qualifications including the International ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). The International ESOL is meant for:

  • Non-native speakers of English who want to provide documented evidence of their English skills for study or work.
  • It can also be used for those who want to go to university in the UK or overseas (individual university websites should be checked to confirm the ESOL’s eligibility for entry).

Who is it recognised by?

LanguageCert International ESOL qualifications are recognised in many countries including the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Spain and the USA.

Here in the UK, the exams are recognised by the following:

Ofqual: the independent qualifications regulator for England.

Qualification Wales: the independent organisation for general and vocational qualifications in Wales.

UCAS: available on the UCAS ‘apply’ list the exams are currently accepted by a handful of UK Universities.

The LanguageCert qualifications are also mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) covering English general purposes.

What do the tests consist of?

The Listening, Reading and Writing parts of the test are the ‘Written Exam’. During these tests you are given interesting language tasks from everyday life – writing letters to friends, sharing thoughts, listening to an interesting story or reading a piece of news. The tasks will be different depending on your level.

After that, you have the Spoken Exam which is a guided conversation with a LanguageCert Interlocutor – your interlocutor does not mark your exam but manages the conversation to help you achieve your best level of English. The Spoken Exam is based on different topics such as – inviting friends to the cinema, talking about hobbies or making an argument for a particular viewpoint. The tasks will be different depending on your level.

Do I choose my level?

Yes! You can choose the level you think that you are suited to, between levels A1 and C2. If you’re unsure of what level would be best for you, our teachers here at Celtic can help you decide.

Do I have to take all four tests at once?

You can if you’re ready to.

However, you can organise to take separate tests and get individual certificates. These exams are flexible and can be delivered on-demand to help you get qualified at Celtic.

Does my certificate expire?

LanguageCert certificates have no expiry date, meaning that you won’t need to re-take the test.

LanguageCert works hard to provide exams that address the needs of the next generation, the tests allow you to gain a qualification in your own time. If you would like to know more please don’t hesitate to talk to us! Get qualified at Celtic today!
