Celtic English Academy becomes a Kickstart Scheme Employer

Celtic English Academy is pleased to be a Kickstart Scheme employer! We have opportunities for young people aged 16-24 at risk of long-term unemployment. We have supported numerous staff to start or grow their careers with our organisation over the years and we look forward to continuing to do this with the new UK Government Kickstart Scheme. There will be up to 3 positions available in 2021.

Why Celtic English Academy?

We pride ourselves on giving hands-on experience for young people with day-to-day responsibilities. We are a small-medium sized organisation and we work closely together as a team, but with a great degree of autonomous working in each role

We are a Real Living Wage Employer, so whilst the Kickstart Scheme ensures the minimum wage from the UK Government, we will top that up to the Real Living Wage at £9.50/hour.

We care about our staff and students, striving to offer consistency, quality and fairness for all.

We are a Living Wage Employer

How does Celtic support young people in their career journeys?

Celtic English Academy is experienced managing work placements with young people, having previously offered successful internship placements under the Go Wales scheme, and also working with Cardiff University for translation masters’ placements. Two Go Wales scheme staff are now in their 7th year with the organisation in management and departmental roles.

Our team are engaging, experienced and supportive with new staff. Many of our longer-term staff have developed their career with us and are evidence of the investment we have made in young people at the start of their professional career to support them in their growth.

Our organisation is two dimensional – a functioning school and business. Thus, work spans the core teaching and academic roles, alongside management and services. We can give young people a good grounding in classic office and front-of-house service, business administration, marketing and student welfare support. Plus experience shadowing or observing other roles for insight.

We value teamwork and communication and it is one of the strengths we have evidenced by our overall staff wellbeing and job retention over the years. We give in-house training for each role plus sector-specific training opportunities, as appropriate, for continuous learning and development.

Regardless of level or experience, managers are encouraged to have regular one to one work related and development meetings with staff. Our CEO believes in the ethos of coaching and mentoring and ensuring that the right people are in the right roles, so that their strengths can be played to and weaknesses supported. We work together to achieve a quality, fair and consistent service for our customers.

We have supported trainees previously with paperwork or requirements for their learning schemes so we can support Kickstart candidates with improving their CV, interview techniques, shadowing or supporting with exploring future long term work routes available to them. Our desire is to make Kickstart scheme placements longer term, after the initial 6 months.
