As an independent language school, Celtic knows how important it is to look after our students. Our academic team and support staff take pride in offering friendly and efficient service both in and out of the classroom. Not only do we value our students’ needs but we also value the needs of our community. Throughout the UK there are some wonderful charities which help people in difficult situations and provide schools like ours an opportunity to give back. Every year Celtic School takes advantage of this opportunity and gives to those causes that matter most to our staff and students.
In addition to raising money for international relief efforts (which we’ll tell you more about in a later post!), we love supporting charities closer to home. In 2012, our very own Jenna Farmer, Shoko Morimoto, and Rachel Lewis ran the Cardiff Half Marathon on behalf of Celtic School. Together they raised money for Bobath, a charity which supports children with cerebral palsy as well as adults with neurological disabilities.
As well as taking part in charitable events across Cardiff, we love organizing fundraising activities for students at the school. Every year we run events for Red Nose Day and Children in Need as well as various holidays. For Valentine’s Day this year we organized our first ‘Great Celtic School Bake-Off’ which raised money for Tree of Hope, a charity offering therapy, equipment, and support to the families of sick children in the UK. Not only was this a wonderful opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile cause but everyone at the school got to taste some amazing cakes made by students from all over the world. What a delicious day!
After enjoying these sweet treats, our teachers organized a staff raffle to raise money for the Velindre Cancer Centre which provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in Cardiff and beyond. Between both the bake-off and our staff raffle we managed to raise over £100 in just a few days!
Celtic School believes in the importance of giving back and raising money for causes which matter to both our students and staff. However, we are always open to suggestions from members of the community as well. With this in mind, if you have a charity that you think our school should support please visit our Facebook page and let us know!
