25th June 2015
This month is the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims all over the world fast (no food or water) every day from 3am til 9.30pm.
One of Celtic’s teacher writes about his great fundraising iniative to mark this important month for students:
“Can you imagine trying to study for your exams while doing this (fasting for Ramadan)?!
I can’t, but I thought I would try, if only for 1 day, on Friday 3rd July.
You might have spoken to some of your Muslim classmates already about Ramadan and what it means, but I hope that my fasting will encourage our students to talk
about it and learn about another culture.
I am also hoping to raise a lot of money to help people in Cardiff who don’t have enough money to pay for food for their families. This has become a big problem in the UK and a charity called Cardiff Food Bank provides free food for people who are most in need of it.
I think it’s a fantastic charity who work hard to help other people and it is in the spirit of why Muslims observe Ramadan, to think about those people who have less than us.
I have set up an easy way to donate money online and I hope that our students, teachers and staff will help me to achieve this goal by giving any amount of money you can.

There will be 3 other members of Celtic English Academy joining me in the fast and we will end it by visiting a local mosque to join in with their big meal which they provide for free each night during Ramadan. Isn’t that great?!
The meal is open to EVERYBODY so if you want to come with us and experience a taste of another culture, please do!
There will be posters and information about this around the school in the next few days.
See you there 🙂
