Big Cheese in Caerphilly 2012

6th August 2012

The ruin of Caerphilly Castle, mainly built in the 13th century is an attraction in itself and one of the most famous castles in Wales. The Big Cheese is a yearly festival at the castle with a big fun fair and a market for regional products. It opened with pyrotechnics on Friday evening.

The fun fair offers an uncountable number of carousels. Not only the traditional merry-go-round also many others are located at the festival. Some of us were brave enough to be flipped upside down in the different carousels. But you shouldn’t eat too much before you ride because you need a resistant stomach. Some people are really addicted to those fast moving carousels, others prefer only to watch. For those addicted the fun fair is a real paradise.

The regional market is perfect to try and buy different kinds of cheese, mixed, wine, fudge and a great deal of other food.

There are also a lot of different medieval market stalls and medieval fights in traditional clothes like chain armour and helmets.

All in all, the festival offers a lot of different attractions for different interests.
