Junior Programme + Water Sports Description

We provide excellent residential accommodation for our young learners. The junior residence is situated in the incredible Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, one of the world’s premier art venues. The residence is a purpose-built, year round facility for primary and secondary school students across Wales, so the centre is perfectly equipped for Celtic’s Junior Summer Programme!

Students can study on our Junior Summer Programme for 2, 3 or 4 weeks. Lessons take place in classrooms in the residential centre, where there is also a canteen, mini-cinema, common room and 24-hour manned reception.

Celtic English Academy has established a link with the Cardiff International White Water Centre, a white water and indoor surfing facility located in Cardiff Bay’s International Sports Village. Water sports enthusiasts, or students that would like to try out a new sport, are all welcome to join our General English + Water Sports summer programme!

Water Sports:

Young learners will have twice a week water sports sessions with a qualified tutor. The students choose a sport from a range of water rafting, canoeing or kayaking.

Cardiff is lucky to be home to an excellent sporting scene and world class facilities. In 2014 Cardiff won the European Capital of Sport Award. Our dynamic city has an Olympic sized swimming pool, the world renowned Millennium Stadium and Cardiff City Football Club’s stadium. Thanks to our exceptional location, Celtic can offer its students programmes that really make for a memorable experience.

The Cardiff International White Water Centre was awarded a Trip Advisor 2014 Certificate of Excellence. With a 250m white water course that pumps up to 80 bath tubs of water per second, and an indoor surfing ‘Flow Rider’ machine, students are sure to have a lot of fun!

What better way to spend your summer than improving your English whilst surfing the waves at this great International White Water Centre?

Other activities:

We believe in engaging all students with our range of activities, but we understand that every individual has different interests, likes and dislikes. That is why we spend a lot of time planning and preparing our social and cultural activity programme so there is enough variety to suit everyone. This year we have included African Samba Drumming in spirit of the Brazil World Cup, plus a behind the scenes tour of the Wales Millennium Centre with a drama workshop!

The 2014 Junior Summer Programme includes:

African Samba Drumming

Wales Millennium Centre Drama Workshop + Tour

Salsa Dance Lessons

We also recognise that there can be a lot of variation between students aged 12 – 17, so we do our best to tailor the activities for the appropriate age groups. If there is anything you are particularly interested in, please feel free to contact one of the Celtic team well in advance of the summer and we will try our best to accommodate your wishes!

Relaxation time:

Junior Summer Programmes can be incredibly exhilarating and rewarding experiences, but also quite exhausting and intense for students and staff alike. We feel rest time is important, so after a busy day of lessons and activities, we make sure students have some free time before or after dinner to unwind, relax in the common room or to see to their personal needs.

We also want to make sure our students get enough sleep so that each day they are fresh to study, discover and explore all the new experiences that await them. If bedtimes are respected, our students are sure to have the enthusiasm and energy to have a wonderful 2, 3 or 4 week stay with Celtic English Academy.
