Wales Millennium Centre opened in 2004 and is now one of Europe's most important and unique sites of art and culture. Major London and Broadway shows like the Lion King and War Horse are often performed here alongside world-class opera and musicals.
St. David’s Hall
Located in the heart of Cardiff’s city centre, St. David’s Hall is a performance venue famous for hosting the annual Welsh Proms as well as the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Free performances are often put on in the foyer during the afternoon, so St David’s Hall is a great venue to visit – perhaps during a break from shopping!
The New Theatre is Cardiff’s oldest surviving theatre, celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2006. Located in the city centre, very close to Celtic English Academy, this theatre puts on a wide variety of touring productions including plays, musical theatre and children’s shows as well as a pantomime every Christmas.
Hidden among the buildings of Cardiff University, the Sherman Theatre is dedicated to putting on modern and diverse productions. This is a great venue to visit if you want to experience the work of Welsh writers, directors and actors, or if you want to take part in any theatre workshops.
Chapter Arts Centre
Chapter Arts Centre is one of the largest arts venues of its kind in Europe with 3 theatres, 2 cinemas, 2 bars, a gallery and over 60 cultural workspaces. It also has a lovely cafe with fresh, organic food and a bar with craft beers and ciders. It is a great place for students and artists alike!
